"For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. " Jn 3:16

Thought for the Month - March 2005

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EASTER

Last month we looked at God’s awesomeness as it relates to the nature of His existence, the One that always has and always will be. We concluded that God is eternal in power, kingship and rulership. This month, however, I’ll like us to pay a close attention to what Easter means to the believer.

Easter is not just another celebration in the Christian calendar nor is it a period of abstinence from meat. But rather, it’s a period of jubilant praise to God: Easter reminds the believer of what Christ did to secure his salvation and the transference of power that subsequently took place.

The identity change process of the believer culminated in the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. The divine became human that human might become partaker of the divine nature. The divine became sin that the power of sin might be broken and the believer might no longer be dominated and overcome by sin. Easter brought about name change for the believer (2 Cor 5:21; 2 Pet 1:9) and gave the believer direct access to the holiest of holy, the very presence of God. This name change however legitimises the believer to use the authority delegated to him by our risen Lord.

The enemy and his cohorts have been whipped (Col 2:15) and you have become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. All power and authority was given to our ascended Lord, which has been delegated to the church. Therefore, thanks be to God for Easter – your identity is secured and the right to use Christ’s delegated authority is yours…
